Storm Damage Repair in Hilliard, With Old Patches Sorted From New Damage
Wind and falling limbs are hard on aging roofs, and years of past repairs can hide what a storm actually did. We check the whole roof, photograph what is new, and work directly with your insurance adjuster. Then we fix it the right way.
What Storm Damage Repair Covers
Storm damage repair means fixing what wind, rain and debris did to your roof in one event. That can be a few lifted shingles, a torn ridge cap, or a pine limb through the decking. The job is to make your home dry again and put the roof back in the shape it was in before the storm.
Older roofs make this harder. Many have patches from earlier storms, a second layer of shingles, or flashing that was sealed with tar instead of replaced. An adjuster may see all of that and call it wear. We separate the fresh damage from the old so your claim is about what the storm did.
Sometimes the honest answer is that a repair won't hold on a tired roof. If so, we tell you and explain what a roof replacement would involve. Most of the time, a solid repair is enough.
What the Work Includes
Free inspection after the storm
We walk the roof, look in the attic for stains and wet decking, and check the gutters, vents and flashing. You get photos and a clear explanation of what we saw.
Working with your adjuster
When there's a storm claim, we talk to your insurance adjuster ourselves so you aren't relaying messages. If you want, one of us meets the adjuster at your home and shows the creases, lifted tabs and broken seals. We aren't your adjuster and we don't decide the claim.
Covering openings if needed
When water is coming in, we seal off the opening so the house stays dry until the repair date.
Shingle and decking repair
Broken or soft decking is cut out and replaced. In homes built decades ago that may be plank boards, which we patch with sheathing that ties in firmly. We match new shingles to the old ones as closely as we can.
Ridge, vents and flashing
Edges are the first thing wind works loose. We reset or replace flashing, pipe boots, vent caps and ridge cap instead of covering them with sealant.
Permits and a written warranty
As a licensed general contractor, we pull a permit whenever a repair calls for one. Our repair work is backed by a 5-year workmanship warranty.
Signs Your Roof Took Storm Damage
Pieces of shingle in the yard
Finding shingle bits after the wind calms means parts of the roof are now bare. A single gap is enough for rain to reach the underlayment.
Bent or raised tabs
A strong gust can fold a tab upward, break its seal strip and let it settle back flat. It looks fine from the yard. Up close, a crease across the shingle gives it away.
Fresh stains on a ceiling
A new brown ring after a storm usually means a lifted shingle or a flashing problem overhead. An old stain that has spread counts as well.
A branch landed on the roof
A heavy limb can crack the decking even if it slid off. Look for a dip or a soft area where it hit.
Gutters or drip edge pulled loose
When gutters come away from the fascia, the roof edge often took damage too. Our gutters page covers it if that's the main issue.
How a Storm Repair Job Goes
- 1
Call and book a visit
Let us know what you saw and when the storm came through. We schedule a free inspection and ask whether water is coming in right now.
- 2
Roof check and photos
We inspect the roof and the attic, mark storm damage apart from older wear or past repairs, and photograph both. You hear what we found in plain language.
- 3
Your claim and our estimate
If you file a claim, we work with your adjuster and hand over our photos. Your written estimate lists every item so you can compare it with the claim.
- 4
The repair and the cleanup
We cover the beds and protect the driveway, then do the repair. Afterward a rolling magnet goes over the lawn and drive for loose nails, and we walk you through the finished work before we leave.
What Moves the Price
Every storm repair is priced after we see the roof. Insurance may pay for some or all of it after your deductible; how much comes down to the terms of your own policy. We also have financing available for your share or for work the claim leaves out.
- How much was hit
- A handful of shingles on a single slope doesn't take long. When the wind got into several slopes or broke through the decking, it takes more material and more hours.
- What's under the shingles
- Aging roofs can hide rotted decking or a second layer of shingles. We won't know until we open it up, and we'll show you before adding anything.
- Matching discontinued materials
- Some shingle lines aren't made anymore and are hard to match. Sometimes a full slope has to be redone so the roof sheds water and looks right.
- Pitch and access
- Steep roofs, tall two-story walls and tight yards slow the work and add safety setup.
Storm Damage Questions
Something not covered here? (904) 709-7985
Should I call my insurance company or you first?
Either works, but a free inspection first tells you whether there's real storm damage worth a claim. If there is, you file and we work with your adjuster from there. If the damage is minor or from years back, you've saved yourself a claim on your record.
My roof has old patches. Will that hurt my claim?
Not if the new damage is clearly shown. That's why we photograph and mark fresh damage separately from past repairs. The adjuster makes the call, but good records help them see the difference.
Will you try to sell me a whole new roof?
No. Most storm damage is a repair. If the roof is near the end of its life and a repair won't hold, we'll say so and show you why. You decide.
How long does a storm repair take?
Most repairs take a day or less once materials are in. Larger jobs with decking work can run longer. After a big storm, scheduling depends on how many roofs need work, and we'll give you an honest date.
Is the repair work covered after you leave?
Yes. Our repair work comes with a 5-year workmanship warranty. If something we did fails in that time, call us and we'll come look at it.
